Broadlands, North Somerset
Located on the wooded hillside above Long Ashton on the edge of Bristol, this project refines a previously approved scheme to create two contemporary homes that sit more naturally within the landscape. The dwellings share a unified architectural language of handmade waterstruck brick, slim-profile glazing and metal standing seam roofs, arranged as split-level houses stepped into the slope.
Living spaces are placed on the upper floor to capture views across the valley, with bedrooms on the lower level opening directly onto the garden. Sunken car ports with planted roof gardens reduce the visible built form and help the houses blend into the surrounding topography. Each home includes a partially covered terrace framed by the main living spaces, providing privacy and improving on the earlier layout.
The revised scheme aligns the buildings more closely with the natural contours of the site, enhancing integration with existing planting, stone boundaries and levels. Parallel Architecture provided planning support, architectural design and full technical detailing to deliver the improved proposals.
