From the practice
Cost check
An early cost plan for your project, prepared by the practice from your drawings or brief, so the budget and the design start from the same figure.
What you get
- The building cost, broken down by the main parts of the work.
- An allowance for contingency and design development, set by the kind of building and how much is known.
- Professional and statutory fees, listed line by line.
- VAT shown separately.
- A range rather than a single figure, with the assumptions written down.
What it is and is not
It is an order of cost estimate from published cost data, adjusted for location and date. It is not a builder's price and not a quote. For larger or more complex projects we recommend a quantity surveyor as well, and the cost check shows where one would add most. Read what a cost plan contains.
The fee depends on the project and is confirmed in writing before we start.
